The 6th IMT-GT Green Council (GC) meeting took place on August 9th, 2023, at Casuarina Hotel in Ipoh, Perak. Chaired by H.E. Dato’ Seri Saarani bin Mohamad, Chief Minister of Perak State Government, the meeting also attended by Hon. Dato’ Mohd. Zakuan bin Haji Zakaria, Deputy State Secretary of Penang Islands, and Hon. Dato’ Dr. Tengku Mohamed FaziharuDean bin Tengku Feissal, Deputy State Secretary of Kelantan State, Mr. Ahmad Ismail, representative from Kota Pekanbaru, and representative from Thailand, and Mr. Firdaus Dahlan, Director of CIMT, and Mr. Antonio Ressano, Principal Regional Cooperation Specialist from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The meeting aimed to enhance the role of State and Provincial entities in implementing the IMT-GT Green Cities Initiatives, fostering collaborative strides towards sustainable urban development. Emphasis was placed on expediting projects under the IMT-GT Sustainable Urban Development Framework (SUDF) 2019 – 2036 and giving precedence to the preservation of natural resources and biodiversity. The meeting also looked forward to the ADB Workshop on Fostering Coastal Resilience and the Blue Economy, which is scheduled in November 2023.
