The Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) has taken a significant step toward strengthening regional integration and cross-border facilitation with the signing of the Framework of Cooperation in Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (FOC in CIQ) on 27 May 2025, in conjunction with the 16th IMT-GT Summit. This landmark document was signed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Republic of Indonesia; the Minister of Economy, Malaysia; and the Deputy Minister of Finance, Kingdom of Thailand.
Recognizing the critical importance of seamless cross-border movement of goods and people, the FOC serves as a strategic initiative to reinforce regional connectivity and contribute to the broader goals of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Developed by the Sub Working Group on Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine under the Working Group on Trade and Investment Facilitation, this framework reflects the shared commitment of IMT-GT member countries to deepen cooperation in CIQ operations.
This important document signals the strong collective commitment of the three governments to enhancing regional connectivity, streamlining border procedures, and deepening economic integration across the subregion. By harmonizing customs, immigration, and quarantine protocols, this framework will unlock new opportunities for trade and travel, reinforcing the IMT-GT’s role as a dynamic hub for economic growth and cooperation.
