The 14th IMT-GT Working Group on Human Resource Development (WGHRD) Meeting convened on 8 – 9 August 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Meeting chaired by Mrs. Norzawatil Amali Binti Alias, Undersecretary of the Policy Division at the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia. The event brought together officials from IMT-GT Member Countries, including Lieutenant Sorawud Preededilok, who led the Thailand delegation and served as Minister of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Mr. Amalin, who led the Indonesian delegation and represented the BNSB Member, National Professional Certification Agency of the Ministry of Manpower, Republic of Indonesia, and Mr. Cheah Hock Kooi, the Deputy Undersecretary of the Policy Division at the Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia. The meeting also saw participation by the Director of CIMT, representatives from the Joint Business Council (JBC) Malaysia, and IMT-GT University Network (UNINET).
The meeting reviewed the progress of projects under the Implementation Blueprint (IB) 2022-2026, with a focus on the Mid-Term Review (MTR). The meeting encouraged member countries to intensify strategic cooperation and explore ways to enhance collaboration in addressing shared human resource challenges within the region.
The Meeting highlighted the importance of working together across Working Groups and development partners to ensure the success of the IB 2022-2026 and deliver real benefits for people, workers, and socioeconomic development. It also stressed the crucial role of projects focusing on education and talent management in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), including Train of Trainers initiatives within the subregion
Following the meeting, delegates were treated to a visit to the Balai Seni Negara, which showcases over 4,500 pieces of artwork. The highlight of the visit was the captivating art exhibition “Rantau: IMT-GT Exhibition” a compelling display of artistic expressions by visual artists from three countries, portraying memories and nostalgia of home, love, and daily struggles and survival issues. This collaborative exhibition serves as a testament to the three countries’ unity, togetherness, and cultural diversity. Delegates also had the opportunity to explore NUSA, which delved into historical narratives, myths, and the quest for identity, resulting in a rich representation of Southeast Asian culture.
