The Centre for Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle Subregional Cooperation (CIMT) had successfully conducted the virtual 15th IMT-GT Strategic Planning Meeting (SPM) Breakout Session of Working Group on Trade and Investment Facilitation (WGTI), on 18th April 2022.
Chaired by Mr. Syed Mohd Faizal Syed Mohd Dardin, Director of Investment Policy and Trade Facilitation Division from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) Malaysia, the breakout session was also attended by Ms. Junita Syartika Syarief, Senior Negotiator of ASEAN Negotiations for Directorate General International Trade Negotiation from the Ministry of Trade Indonesia, and Mr. Perapat Uthaisri, Director of Trade and Investment Cooperation Division for Department of Foreign Trade from the Ministry of Commerce, Kingdom of Thailand. Also present during the breakout session were the Director of CIMT, Mr. Firdaus Dahlan, the Deputy Directors of CIMT, Ms. Wariya Pisuchpen and Mr. Mohammad Akhir bin Abdul Rahman, representatives from the Chief Ministers Governors Forum (CMGF), IMT-GT Joint Business Council (JBC) and other WGTI members.
WGTI plays important role as the cross border faciliator for other sectors under subregional cooperation. As the first meeting of the year for WGTI to set the work plan to be carried out under the new IMT-GT Implementation Blueprint (IB) 2022-2026, the WGTI members also took the opportunity to update each country’s project/programme status and brainstormed on new inititatives to be included in the working group’s portfolio. WGTI also had a conducive discussion on WGTI Strategic Framework to ensure successful implementation and accelerate the COVID-19 recovery.
