24 July 2025 — The IMT-GT Geoparks & Eco-Tourism Trails Workshop wrapped up successfully in Langkawi, Malaysia, marking a significant leap from cross-border agreements to on-the-ground action.
Rooted in the Memorandum of Understanding on Geopark Cooperation between the Langkawi, Satun, and Toba Caldera UNESCO Global Geoparks, this workshop brought together tour operators, travel agents and eco-tourism stakeholders from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand to co-develop a seamless, sustainable trail linking the subregion’s most iconic nature destinations.
Facilitated by the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB), the workshop laid a strong foundation for the development of eco-tourism packages that drive local economic growth while promoting conservation and community engagement. Participants collaboratively formulated a Geopark & Eco-Tourism Trail Package Framework to guide future product development and joint cross-border tourism promotion within the IMT-GT subregion.
