The 16th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit was successfully convened on 27 May 2025, marking a significant milestone in the subregion’s journey towards enhanced economic integration and sustainable development, in line with the theme of Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 which is ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.
The Meeting, which was chaired by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, provided an opportunity for the Leaders to reaffirm their commitment to deepening subregional cooperation and endorsed key priorities to advance the IMT-GT Vision 2036. A key outcome of the Summit was the signing of the Framework of Cooperation in Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) which aimed at reducing bureaucratic barriers and facilitate smoother cross-border trade and movement.
Discussions also centered on accelerating the sustainability agenda, advancing tourism as a key enabler for economic development and ensuring resilience of the subregion to drive long-term prosperity across the subregion. The 16th MT-GT Summit reaffirmed the Member Countries’ dedication to fostering a dynamic and interconnected subregion. Through strategic cooperation with partners such as the ASEAN Secretariat and Asian Development Bank, IMT-GT continues to be a catalyst for regional prosperity and integration.
