29th IMT-GT MINISTERIAL MEETING: STRENGTHEN CONNECTIVITY AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE SUBREGIONAL COOPERATION

The 29th IMT-GT Ministerial Meeting was convened from 26 – 29 of September 2023 at the Batam Marriot Hotel Harbour Bay in Batam, Indonesia. Chaired by H.E. Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the meeting welcomed the participation of H.E. Rafizi Ramli, Malaysia’s Minister of Economy, and H.E. Julapun Amornvivat, Deputy Minister of Finance from the Kingdom of Thailand. Further enriching this significant meeting, the meeting was also attended by IMT-GT Senior Officials, Hon. Dr. Edi Prio Pambudi, Hon. Dr. Mohamad Shaharin Umar, Hon. Danucha Pichayanani, H.E. Ansar Ahmad, Governor of Riau Islands, Chair of the 20th IMT-GT Chief Ministers and Governors Forum, Hon. Winfried F. Wicklein, Director General of the Southeast Asia Department at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Director of Sectoral Development within the ASEAN Economic Community at the ASEAN Secretariat, and Director of IMT-GT Subregional Cooperation (CIMT).

The meeting emphasis on the critical need for connectivity and sustainable development in the region. High-level officials of IMT-GT countries expressed their commitment to fostering cross-border cooperation, focusing on infrastructure development, technology, and innovation. The meeting also highlighted the significance of promoting tourism to succeed Visit IMT-GT Year 2023 – 2025, addressing climate change challenges, and encouraging green initiatives for a more environmentally sustainable future. The meeting called all stakeholders to further enhance collaboration including among local governments, private sectors, and development partners for the attainment of goals of the subregion.
