IMT-GT Green Cities Mayors’ Council (GCMC)
IMT-GT Green Cities Mayors’ Council (GCMC) serves as a subregional institutional platform for mayors and city/municipal-level governments. GCMC enables city/municipal-level governments to advance the implementation of the IMT-GT Sustainable Urban Development Framework (SUDF) at the city level, including the sharing and replication of best practices, to support the broader goals of the IMT-GT Vision 2036.
Objectives
The main objectives of the Green Cities Mayors’ Council are as follows:
- Support the Green Council (GC) and the Working Group on Environment (WGE) in operationaliSing the strategic thrusts by developing a subregional sector strategy and identifying key programmes and projects to be pursued;
- Ensure that IMT-GT projects are consistent with the identified sector strategy; and
- Coordinate, facilitate, and monitor the implementation of IMT-GT cooperation within their respective areas.
Key Roles and Functions
GCMC shall be responsible for implementing projects/initiatives under their respective portfolios across the seven (7) SUDF portfolios. The specific roles and tasks of the GCMC are as follows:
- To implementation the projects/programmes as per agreed by the GCMC using SUDF as guideline;
- To facilitate the identification and implementation of priority programmes and projects in environment areas.;
- To work closely with the JBC (Joint Business Council) in promoting the active participation of the IMT-GT private sector in Working Group;
- To facilitate the discussion and resolution of issues and bottlenecks in project implementation; and
- To monitor and report on the progress of implementation of GCMC activities.
Structure
- GCMC Member Cities comprise 12 cities/municipalities in Indonesia, 18 cities/municipalities in Malaysia, and 44 cities/municipalities in Thailand.
- The chairmanship rotates among the Member Cities every two (2) years, following the alphabetical order of the member countries.
- GCMC Meeting shall convene at least once a year at a time agreed upon by all Member Cities. The meeting venue shall rotate among the Member Cities according to the alphabetical order of the Member Countries.
