The Centre for IMT-GT Subregional Cooperation (CIMT) participated in the Eighth Session of the Committee on Environment and Development (CED8), held at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok from 16-18 October 2024.

The CED is an intergovernmental body of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) which addresses policies and strategies for enhancing environmental sustainability of economic and social development. The meeting brought together international and regional stakeholders to explore pathways for sustainable development, focusing on climate action, energy efficiency, and urban infrastructure. Through this platform, CIMT highlighted the importance of regional collaboration and strong local government involvement as key drivers to address the multiple environmental challenges faced by the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) subregion.

CIMT also participated in a side-event on Action for Low Carbon Cities: New Paradigms of Energy Efficiency, Transportation, and Urban Infrastructure Planning. During the event, insights were shared on the importance of multi-stakeholder engagements and support needed by cities in order to pursue the low-carbon agenda within IMT-GT. With a robust network of local governments, IMT-GT provides an excellent platform in the pursuit of sustainable urban development.
