On 8-9 June 2023, Mr. Firdaus Dahlan, Director of the Centre for Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Subregional Cooperation (CIMT), paid a courtesy visit to the Riau Islands Governor’s office in Tanjung Pinang, Indonesia. CIMT delegates welcomed by Mr. Luki Zaiman Prawira, Assistant II and Mr. Syamsul Bahrum, Assistant for Economic and Developmental Affairs of the Riau Islands Provincial Government. Mr. Firdaus Dahlan was accompanied by Ms. Melissa Mokhtar, Deputy Director of CIMT, and Heriawan (Project Coordinator & Analyst).
At the technical meeting held at Graha Kepri, CIMT discussed the preparations for the upcoming 29th IMT-GT Ministerial and related Meetings to be held in Batam city, 26 – 29 September 2023. On the following day, at the Governor’s Office, the meeting highlighted the active involvement of the Riau Islands Provincial Government in the development of the Halal industry in the region and explore the possibility of connecting ports between Riau Islands and Johor States, as well as islands between Anambas to Tioman and Karimun to Kukus.
In light of this discussion, CIMT proposed that the Governor of Riau Islands may explore the aforementioned proposals bilaterally with the Chief Minister of Johor State and Pahang during the said meetings.
