Coordination Meeting in Finalising the Draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)on IMT-GT Rubber Cities and Rubber Industry Cooperation

The Final round of discussion on the MoU of IMT-GT Rubber Cities and Rubber Industry Cooperation has been successfully conducted virtually on 14 Tuesday 2021. The Project Implementation Team (PIT) which was established last year was mandated to finalize the MoU. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Hasri Hasan, Chief Operating Officer of Northern Corridor Implementation (NCIA)-Malaysia, Chairman of PIT team, and also attended by Mr. Muhammad Taufiq, Director of Downstream Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries, Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Kaveechatt Silapapiphat, Deputy Governor, the Rubber Authority of Thailand; and Firdaus Dahlan, Director of Centre for IMT-GT Sub-Regional Cooperation (CIMT).

The MoU is aimed at recommending the policies and strategies direction in moving IMT-GT beyond the rubber production and strengthening the overall rubber industry. On top of that, the MoU may explore and propose regional cooperation through the IMT-GT Rubber City Network (Sei Mang Kei Rubber City, Indonesia- Kedah Rubber City, Malaysia- Songkhla Rubber City, Thailand) to enhance the utilisation of rubber products and more domestic consumption in IMT-GT and ASEAN regional supply chain development.

The meeting agreed to sign the MoU prior to the Strategic Planning meeting, scheduled to be held in February / March 2022.
