On 11th May 2023, Leaders from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand gathered in Labuan Bajo for the 15th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit, celebrating and marking the 30th anniversary of the subregional cooperation. The IMT-GT Summit was successfully convened with the Chairmanship of His Excellency Mr. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, with the presence of His Excellency Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and His Excellency Mr. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Minister of Finance, the Kingdom of Thailand. Also present during the 15th IMT-GT Summit were His Excellency Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, His Excellency Mr. Masatsugu Asakawa, President of Asian Development Bank (ADB), His Excellency Mr. Airlangga Hartarto, Minister for Economic Affairs of Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of Indonesia and His Excellency Mr. Rafizi Ramli, Minister of Economic Affairs of Malaysia.
Since its establishment in 1993, the IMT-GT subregional cooperation has made significant strides in advancing economic growth, reducing development gaps, and empowering stakeholders.
As part of the IMT-GT’s milestones, the Visit IMT-GT Year 2023-2025 campaign was inaugurated during the Summit, to jointly revive the tourism industry across the region. Stakeholders were urged to align their tourism initiatives and promote the subregion as a single, attractive tourist destination, contributing to the post-pandemic recovery of the industry.
