Following the current global concern over the environmental issues and the urge for sustainable development (SDGs), IMT-GT is committed to push forward for a green growth in the subregion.
As a testament to IMT-GT’s commitment, the 5th IMT-GT Green Council Meeting (GCM) was held on Tuesday, 9 November 2021, with objectives among others; (i) to review the progress of projects and activities under IMT-GT Sustainable Urban Development Framework (SUDF) 2019-2036 and (ii) to strengthen the role of State and Provincial in the implementation of IMT-GT Green Cities Initiatives.
Chaired by Hon. Mr. Jetsada Chitrat, Governor of Songkhla Province of Thailand, the meeting was also attended by Hon. Mr. Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang of Malaysia, Hon. Mr. Nova Iriansyah, Governor of Aceh, Indonesia. Also present during the meeting were Hon. Datuk Ar. Yew Tung Seang, Mayor of Penang Island City Council Mr. Lim Chze Cheen, Director of the ASEAN Connectivity Division from ASEAN Secretariat, Mr. Gary Krishnan, Senior Country Specialist from Asian Development Bank (ADB), Ms. Naeeda Crishna Morgado, Infrastructure Specialist (Innovation and Green Finance) from ADB, National Secretariats, States/Provinces Governors/Chief Ministers or their representatives and members from the Working Group on Environment, and Mr. Firdaus Dahlan, Director Of Center for IMT-GT Subregional Cooperation (CIMT).
CIMT would like to thank all governors as well as the delegates who attended and contributed to the meeting. CIMT look forward to the 6th IMT-GT Green Council Meeting, which is scheduked to be held in Indonesia in 2022.
