On May 30, 2023, Mr. Firdaus Dahlan, Director of the Centre for Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Subregional Cooperation (CIMT) paid a courtesy visit to YAB Datuk Onn Hafiz bin Ghazi, Chief Minister of Johor. During this visit, Mr. Firdaus Dahlan briefed Chief Minister on the recent progress of IMT-GT cooperation, physical connectivity projects and potential cooperation under economic corridor (EC) to connect further Johor State and Riau Islands. Mr. Firdaus also updated the Chief Minister on the outcome of IMT-GT Summit recently, and the new initiative Visit IMT-GT Year 2023 – 2025 for which Johor can take advantage to promote tourism destinations.

Mr. Firdaus   accompanied by Ms. Melissa Mokhtar, Deputy Director of CIMT, and Heriawan (Project Coordinator & Analyst). CIMT team also had productive discussion meet with Johor stakeholders chaired by YB Dato’ Haji Mohammed Ridha, Deputy State Secretary (Development) of Johor State Economic Planning Division on the establishment of the Secretariat for IMT-GT cooperation. Mr. Firdaus congratulated Johor for the first State in Malaysia formally established the Secretariat to optimize benefit of IMT-GT Subregional cooperation for Johor State.

Johor State looks forward to fully participating in IMT-GT Subregional cooperation and expressed its keen interest to attend IMT-GT Chief Minister and Governor Forum (CMGF) and IMT-GT Ministerial meeting to be held in Batam, Riau Islands on 26 – 29 September 2023.
