The IMT-GT Chief Ministers’ and Governors’ Forum Meeting (CMGF) concluded successfully on 11 September 2024 in Johor, Malaysia. The forum, chaired by the Chief Minister of Johor, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, saw participation from high-level delegates representing Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Notable attendees included H.E. Elen Setiadi, Acting Governor of South Sumatera, Republic of Indonesia, leading the Indonesian delegation; H.E. Mr. Songklod Sawangwong, Governor of Trang Province, heading the Thailand delegation; and representatives from Asian Development Bank (ADB), ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC), Centre for IMT-GT Subregional Cooperation (CIMT), Joint Business Council (JBC), and University Network (UNINET). The forum also welcomed representatives from various sectoral Working Groups across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to strengthen engagement with local governments and the streamlining of subregional cooperation mechanisms within the existing IMT-GT Framework. This includes facilitating knowledge sharing and capacity building activities organised and driven by local governments. Furthermore, the meeting recommended exploring joint ventures in key sectors such as food estate development, shrimp farming, and halal food production. Encouraging investment in Crude Palm Oil refineries, rubber-based industries, and integrated waste management were also identified as priorities for the upcoming Ministerial Meeting.
