21 August 2025 — The 8th IMT-GT Green Cities Mayor Council (GCMC) Meeting convened virtually, bringing together city leaders and stakeholders from over 50 cities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand to drive sustainable urban development under the IMT-GT Sustainable Urban Development Framework (SUDF) 2019-2036.
Chaired by Pekanbaru City with Vice-Chairs Hat Yai City Municipality and Penang Island City Council, the meeting reviewed progress and discussed challenges across seven key portfolios: solid waste management, transport, energy, biodiversity, circular economy, carbon literacy, and education for sustainable development, aligning efforts with IMT-GT Vision 2036 and the Implementation Blueprint 2022–2026.
The discussions reinforced GCMC’s role in fast-tracking green initiatives and strengthening multi-city collaboration to create more sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient cities for the people of the subregion.
