4 August 2026, Pekanbaru — Representatives from cities and municipalities across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand convened in Pekanbaru, Indonesia, for the 9th IMT-GT Green Cities Mayors’ Council (GCMC) Meeting
The Meeting reviewed the implementation progress of the Sustainable Urban Development Framework (SUDF), discussed ways to strengthen coordination and reporting mechanisms, and explored collaboration opportunities with international and technical organisations, including UNESCAP, IGES, and UN-Habitat.
The programme also included technical visits to Pekanbaru’s green initiatives, including its eco-school programmes and integrated waste management system, providing participants with practical insights into sustainable urban practices.
The Meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Member Cities to advancing sustainable, resilient, and inclusive urban development and strengthening collaboration to achieve the shared vision of greener and more liveable cities across the IMT-GT subregion.
