The “Green Meeting” of 10th IMT-GT Working Group on Trade and Investment FacilitationJuly 31, 2017
The 10th Working Group of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry (WGAA) meeting was held on 19-20 July 2017 in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The meeting was attended by Ministry of Agriculture from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand from various departments and divisions.
On the first day of the meeting, 19 July 2017, the delegates went for a joint-field trip visit with Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) delegations. The site visit showcased one of the beautiful island in Lombok, Gili Trawangan. The journey to Gili Trawangan took about 30 minutes boat ride from the mainland of Lombok. The unique feature about this island is no motorised vehicle allow. The only way to get around is on foot, bicycle or in pony carts. The visit end at the pearl farm whereby the delegates have an opportunity to learn how to breed oyster and to experience the production of pearl.
On 20th July 2017, the meeting of WGAA was held in Lombok Astoria Hotel, Lombok and was chaired by Dr. Wacharapon Chotiyaputta, Director of Division of International Livestock Cooperation, Department of Livestock Development, Thailand Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative as the Head of Delegation for Thailand. The Head of Delegation for Indonesia was Mr Mesah Tarigan, Director for International Cooperation Centre, Ministry of Agriculture and Head of Delegation for Malaysia is Ms Ediana Suzelin Abdul Rahim, ASEAN Section, International Division, Malaysia Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry. The Centre for IMT-GT was represented by Ms Robita Robinson.
The objectives of the meeting were to update the IMT-GT projects progress, to identify new IMT-GT projects for Implementation Blueprint 2017-2021 (IB2017-2021), to finalise the working group’s Terms of Reference (ToR) according to IB2017-2021, to prepare report for the upcoming Senior Officials’ Meeting in September 2017 as well as to prepare work plan for the implementation of IMT-GT Summit Directives.
The meeting has managed to identified nine projects such as Genetic Diversity of SurathRed Goat, IMT-GT Cooperation on Oil Palm, IMT-GT Young Farmers Internship Programme, Development of Local Grain Corn Production System for Livestock Utilizing Varieties from Indonesia and Thailand and Increasing Asian Sea Bass Productivity by Promoting the Utilisation of Genetic Improvement Seed: A Field Trial to be included in IB2017-2021. The meeting has also achieved to finalised the Working Group’s ToR for 2017-2021 period.
To end the meeting, the chairman congratulated the hard work demonstrated by the member countries on their commitment to achieve the meeting’s objectives. He also thanked Indonesia for such a great arrangement and support in hosting the meeting.
