IMT-GT total trade has been increasing since 2016. Exports continued to dominate total trade in IMT-GT with trade balance rose moderately form US$ 26.5 billion in 2017 to US$ 37.7 billion in 2018.

In 2018, Indonesia-GT registered the biggest trade balance of US$ 37.4 Billion and followed by Thailand-GT (US$ 3.8 Billion). However, Malaysia-GT had a trade deficit of US$ 3.5 Billion.
