Building Awareness of IMT-GT to be Known Across the Potential Stakeholder and Millennial Generation

For the very first time, IMT-GT participated in the Diplomacy Festival (Diplofest) that was held in one of the Province in IMT-GT regions, Padang, West Sumatera, Indonesia. It was organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, 1st February 2019 and Saturday, 2nd February 2019 to ground Indonesian diplomacy to be closer to the Indonesian people, especially students, local government and stakeholders in Padang.

This Festival presenting two activities, namely the public lecture and Diplomacy. The DiploFest aims to facilitate the interest of young people on foreign policy issues (polugri). DiploFest, which was initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is a form of diplomacy in the community.

Quoted in MinangkabauNews, in a press statement on Friday, the Secretary of Publication and Information Diplomacy Al Busyra Basnur said that through this event, it is expected that the community, especially the younger generation, as an asset of national diplomacy can find out the efforts that have been carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in participating in protecting, prospering and educating the nation, and actively participating in maintaining world peace.

Director CIMT, Mr Firdaus Dahlan gave a public lecture to the public in Meeting CCI of West Sumatera on 1st February 2019, and on 2nd February 2019, in Andalas University to the student and lecturer to promote IMT-GT as unique perspective from the provinces which links three countries to successful and collaborative projects with great relevance to the industry, community and to a sustainable future in Southeast Asia.

The diplomacy festival also presents the Edu Fair area, where students can visit various booths from various scholarship programs, how to become diplomats, to job vacancies in international organizations. CIMT also opened Information Booth to disseminate the information of IMT-GT performing well with strong economic growth and attracting significant investments.

CIMT recorded a potential outcome from the event namely, a) MOU with Andalas University in capacity building collaboration; b) City of Padang interest in joining the IMT-GT Green Cities Programme; c) Further collaboration with West Sumatera on Strategic commodities e.g. cinnamon, coffee and rubber.
